Summary: The PMI Hawaii–Manaʻolana International Mentorship Program is a nine‑month initiative that pairs PMP‑certified mentors with PMI Hawaii mentees to strengthen skills, support career growth, and build a connected project management community. Participants engage through in‑person sessions, webinars, and structured one‑on‑one mentoring focused on meaningful professional development.

Target Audience: Project Managers, Program Managers, Senior Technical Professionals, Aspiring Leaders, anyone seeking to strengthen interpersonal leadership

SESSION DESCRIPTION

Leading projects and teams requires emotional intelligence to navigate stakeholders, ethical clarity to make principled decisions, and genuine influence to build commitment. In this one-hour session, you'll explore emotional intelligence fundamentals, discover how ethical decision-making strengthens leadership trust, and learn influence strategies that build buy-in without relying on authority.

You'll engage in self-reflection and practical skill-building, leaving with insight into your leadership strengths and one concrete approach for improving stakeholder relationships.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this one-hour session, participants will be able to:
  1. Assess emotional intelligence and ethical decision-making as foundations for effective project leadership
  2. Apply empathy and perspective-taking to understand diverse stakeholder interests and build trust-based relationships
  3. Practice genuine influence techniques that build commitment and buy-in without relying on authority

Melia Abreu is a strategic facilitator, certified PMP®, and values-based leader with 25+ years of experience across healthcare, education, aviation, and nonprofit sectors. As a Senior Consultant and Instructor with Manaʻolana International, she supports professionals through project management training, cultural transformation, and leadership development. Melia holds certifications in PMP®, Prosci® Change Management, and Lean Six Sigma. Known for her grounded and culturally responsive style, she creates inclusive spaces where people feel seen and supported. Born and raised on Kauaʻi and Hawaiʻi Island, Melia integrates Native Hawaiian values into her work, helping others lead with clarity, purpose, and heart.
